Risk management in public healthcare organisations

The problem of the occurrence of undesirable events, related to the delivery of health services, has become increasingly important, which has had several consequences: 
  • citizens' distrust of healthcare facilities
  • discomfort and loss of motivation among operators in the sector
  • claims for compensation are more and more frequent and substantial
  • exponential growth in costs to purchase insurance coverage
  • insurers fleeing this particular market segment


Eurorisk has adopted a pragmatic approach, and works with public health managers to meet the need for health sector management teams that are aware of risks, by providing specialist consultation to outline a Risk Management Plan and an Insurance Management Programme
Our operational intervention provides these structures with the possibility of devising an overall risk management system, consisting of a set of procedures and actions aimed at achieving tangible results:

  • identifying risk areas and assessing critical issues
  • analysing company processes by searching for potential but yet unidentified risks
  • defining priority intervention areas in order to manage risks according to the process: eliminate-reduce- transfer-retain
  • studying appropriate prevention, protection and insurance measures

  • finding a balance between risks and controls, optimising the total cost of risk
  • training staff involved in risk and insurance management

Specifically, we consider our intervention relevant for the development and growth of the corporate culture geared to risk reduction, to improve relationships with users, collaborators and employees as well as insurers.
